The People Around Jesus
There were two groups of people that Jesus was addressing with these stories. First group was tax collectors and sinners who are represented by the younger brother. Second group was Pharisees and Scribes who are represented by elder brother. Sermon will highlight the truth that this story wasn’t meant to bring people to tears but to shock and anger at treatment of Father from younger brother. He is illustrating that both the irreligious and the religious are lost, that both paths lead to dead ends and maybe how we have traditionally thought about how to connect with and please God has been wrong.
