The Two Lost Sons

This sermon focuses on the offense of the younger brother to the father. When he asked for his share of inheritance he was saying to the Father, “You are dead to me.” The Father doesn’t disown the son but grants him his request. The Father wants relationship but the son only wants the Father’s things, not the Father. As the younger brother repents, we see a beautiful picture of the love of God for sinners. The sermon will also highlight the lostness of the elder brother. He also disgraces the Father but the father is patient and pleads with him to be restored. Story ends there! Why? Because the elder brother is really the focus of the story. His religiousness is what is keeping from relationship. It’s now up to us to identify where we are lost (just like that of the Pharisees and the Scribes).
